Over 1,200 shooters will attempt 600,00 free throws during the event, and each one counts. 75 basketball courts will be in action, with a celebrity shoot out, a kid’s zone, and an evening concert.
Over the years, Hoops of Hope has raised significant contributions and awareness for many orphan hope centers in Africa. Each registrant receives a Hoops of Hope All Stars Goodie Bag, a t-shirt, a ticket to the All Stars Evening Concert for the Cause, and their own customizable web page.
On July 28th, we hope you’ll stop by the REMAX Access office in Northern Liberties for a first time home buyer session called the PHFA $500 Grant Program with the NKCDC. The session is free and there will be refreshments, guest speakers, and valuable information.

The Northern Liberties Neighbors Association wants you to know that free rain barrels are available to all neighborhood residents and businesses, just email the NLNA Clean & Green Coordinator Lara Kelly at trash@nlna.org with your name and address, a description of your downspout: shape (round or square), size (2″x3″, 3″ round, etc.), and texture (smooth or rippled), and confirmation that you can fit a barrel 3 ft. high and 29″ in your yard near a gutter downspout.
A rain barrel can help keep stormwater out of your gutters, and with all of the gardens and outdoor green spaces in Northern Liberties, this water can be used to water and give the land some much needed hydration during drier times (such as now). With the sun beating down on Philadelphia right now, we sure hope that the Water Department extends the free rain barrels to neighborhoods throughout the city.

Penn Treaty Park’s new website is just the start of the riverside park’s latest plans. Your favorite Fishtown retreat will host a series of events this summer, so we noticed while checking out the updated site.
On July 13, an outdoor movie that seems perfectly suited for the park, Where the Wild Things Are, will be shown. July 14 promises a Philly Folk Parade, July 21 is set for Charanga with Salsa lessons, and August 4 is time for the Philebrity Rock & Roll Barbecue.

Bastille Day is one of our favorite events to celebrate in Philadelphia – who hasn’t wanted to run away to France at one point or another? Luckily, the Bastille Day celebration in Fairmount indulges us on these whims each year.
We did say indulge. The neighborhood whips up French dinner and wine specials at participating Fairmount restaurants and bars, French film screenings, and the Bastille Day Street Festival, which culminates in the annual Storming of the Bastille.

Tour the Bastille, watch the Fairmount Pet Shoppe Parade at 2 pm and the Tricycle Tour de France at 3 pm, and check out the many exhibits on Fairmount – including a selection of French books and wine and cheese tips. At 5:15 pm, there will be a Costume Contest. Then, at 5:30 pm, it’s time for the Storming of the Bastille. This year’s Marie Antoinette will be played by Terry McNally, co-owner of London Grill. She’ll declare “Let them eat Tastykake!” as thousands of Butterscotch Krimpet Tastykakes are sent flying into the crowd. Ah, a little bit of Philadelphia influence at last.
